- This is a hybrid position. Candidates must be comfortable working onsite Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in Oakbrook Terrace, IL.
Overview & Responsibilities
The Power BI Analyst & Developer will play a key role in advancing data-driven decision-making within the Engineering and Construction Quality division by designing, implementing, and maintaining impactful dashboards and reports. This role supports quality assurance initiatives for engineering and construction projects, working closely with quality analysis teams to deliver insights on key performance indicators (KPIs) and business scorecards. The ideal candidate will leverage expertise in Power BI, DAX, and SQL to develop robust data visualizations and ensure data accuracy across platforms. Key responsibilities will include:
- Design and develop comprehensive dashboards and reports in Power BI to visualize quality data for engineering and construction projects, translating complex data into accessible insights.
- Provide analytical support by creating, updating, and maintaining operational scorecards and KPIs, integrating data from SQL servers and Asset Suite 8.
- Perform in-depth analysis to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of operational processes, identifying areas of improvement and highlighting quality trends.
- Develop, maintain, and optimize datasets for reporting purposes, ensuring that data integrity and security protocols are upheld.
- Evaluate quality metrics, including binary data points from engineering and construction checklists, to measure KPIs like accuracy scores.
- Implement security measures and user access controls within Power BI to safeguard sensitive data and restrict report access as needed.
- Write complex DAX code and Power Query to enable customized data analysis, including creating filters, slicers, and dynamic reports for diverse user needs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements, address data quality issues, and improve report accuracy and usability.
- Monitor data quality in Power BI dashboards, troubleshooting any issues and validating accuracy to ensure reliable reporting for decision-making.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Power BI development, including building and maintaining dashboards, creating visualizations, and optimizing report performance.
- Proficient in DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) and SQL, with the ability to write complex queries and code to extract and manipulate data.
- Strong attention to detail, with proven ability to identify, analyze, and correct errors in data reporting.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Solid understanding of Power BI functionalities, including slicers, filters, calculated columns, and data security measures.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience in integrating Power BI with SQL databases and other data sources, including familiarity with data management in Asset Suite 8 (or similar software).
- Experience in a quality analysis or engineering-focused role, with knowledge of construction or engineering quality standards and practices.
- Familiarity with data warehousing, ETL processes, and best practices in data management.
- Experience in creating automated Power BI reports and alerts that update regularly based on data refresh cycles.
- Certification in Power BI or data analysis (such as DA-100 or PL-300).
- Familiarity with Agile or similar project management methodologies.
- Experience with additional tools and languages, such as Python or R, for advanced data analysis and automation.
